Cleveland singer-songwriter John Kalman will be performing this Friday June 21 at the Beachland Ballroom opening for Erika Wennerstrom (from the Heartless Bastards); Jivviden (from Cleveland as well) are also on the bill.

John (who also drums with Fits of Hail) put out a fine solo LP a couple years back called “A Drive, Awake”. My personal fave tune on the disc is “Little Baby Blue” (see the video here), but there is also a version of his song “F—k All” interpreted in a loving classically-based version by Cleveland’s Opus 216 string quartet here, well worth the listen!

I heard Erika Wennerstrom’s music for the first time this morning on the fine WRUW radio show “the ’59 Sound” (listen to the show’s archive here, forgive the abrupt start), which played her entire new release and also interviewed her; to my ears her music bore a kinship to that of Wye Oak ,all good…
